Latest action plan and update for the patient group
The practice has been asked to develop a structure that gains the views of patients and enables the practice to obtain feedback from the practice population such as a Patient Group
The surgery now has an active group which meets on a monthly basis and has been running since September 2011. It has representation of individuals from diverse backgrounds. There are also individuals who experience a range of conditions taking part in the group. There is a moderately good age range of individuals involved but some effort will be made to involve others such as parents of younger children for example.
There is a dedicated notice board in the waiting area which is under the control of the group. The group has a chair and dedicated members. The group is looking to widen its membership by possibly having larger group sessions at times but at the moment wants to stay focussed and as a core membership (decision of the group 27/03/2012). Watch this space....
There are 2 website developments both of which have an interactive zone and areas for information and for publicising the patient groups activities
This is a particular dedicated patient interface which is designed by HealthUnlocked and can be used increasingly by patients signed up. It should create a health community with online mutual support and for information sharing.
2. Agreeing areas of priority with the Patient Group
The group is looking at several areas:
a) The services and systems within the practice
b) Developing several practice surveys which are owned and designed by the group – launched online and in paper form.
c) The services relating to the local facility – Queen Marys Hospital
d) Exploring the groups’ involvement in the locality commissioning patient group, the locality GP commissioning forum and understanding the effects of the health bill as it is.

3. Collating patient views through the use of survey
The National Patient Survey was utilised in this year to inform the practice and a full Dr Carson appointments review was undertaken (available at the surgery - ask for information on this)). A new policy was created and the patient group has offered direct feedback to date on the new system.
Outcome of this was to restructure the appointment system to meet 2 areas identified by the survey – ability to see the preferred doctor and ability to book ahead.
As noted above the practice Patient Group are going to design their own in house set of questionnaires which will be launched and then a poll will be run to identify further key priority areas for action
Providing the Patient Group with opportunities to discuss survey findings and reaching agreement with the Patient Group on changes to services
The meetings are fully minuted and actions noted. The group has full access to surveys and data as needed and requested. It is the intention to use the more interactive online tools on this website to reach a wider audience and get wider feedback and involvement. The new practice website also has this facility but people will be redirected to HealthUnlocked
The group are going to then work on the practices new dedicated surveys once agreed and completed.
4. Agreeing an action plan with the Patient Group and seek Patient Group agreement to implement changes
A purpose and action plan is noted and further areas have been identified:
a) Re inforce some of the staff training on the new booking system to ensure consistency
b) Review the prescribing systems particularly around repeat prescribing at the practice and locally
c) Recreate the current service list within the practice
